The Barmada Lab investigates the foundations of RNA and protein homeostasis in neurons, and how disruptions in these processes lead to neurodegenerative conditions such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Their studies combine genome engineering, neuroscience, functional genomics, cell biology, automation and advanced microscopy to elucidate pathogenic mechanisms and uncover novel therapeutic strategies operating in ALS, FTD and related disorders.
