Undercurrent

Undercurrent Earth is a focused research organization exploring novel ocean-based climate interventions to address heat absorption and ecosystem stress in a warming world. Recognizing that the oceans absorb more than 90% of excess heat from greenhouse gases, Undercurrent is investigating potential pathways to increase reflectivity at the ocean surface, reduce heat uptake, and mitigate local and global warming impacts. Rooted in rigorous oceanography, climate science, and controlled experimentation, Undercurrent advances lab-based research as a precursor to carefully designed field trials to evaluate both the efficacy and risks of this approach. By prioritizing transparency, peer review, and ecological safeguards, Undercurrent seeks to generate the high-quality data needed to inform responsible decision-making regarding ocean climate interventions and to contribute to a broader evidence base for managing climate risk.
